For me photography started with my very first job: Sears Portrait Studio. Grade 10 and determined to make some weekend shopping money. I had no idea when I went for that interview how much my whole world was about to change. A new job? Sure. But a new passion? Not gunna lie… I didn’t see that one coming. I fully intended to slave away at minimum wage just long enough to treat myself with a shopping spree, and maybe bank some work experience hours for school. But from my very first day, I loved it! With two short months of training under my belt I was thrown into the camera room for my first session – and man was I nervous! 5-year-old birthday pictures for an adorable little girl with tight blonde curls, her mom hovering nervously over my shoulder, already bribing her daughter with a special treat if she’d “just smile nice for the photo”. An old school wall mounted film camera moved vertically on the wall behind me, and my fingers fumbled over the controls in my hand as I got use to controlling the massive camera. “What are you planning on doing for your birhday?” I asked her.. and there it was, the most captivating of smiles crossed the little girls face as she gave me her reply, “Having a party!” I clicked to capture the excitement in her face – the first “POP” of the flash, followed closely by the squeal of delight from her mom, (who was watching the screen closely to see how the picture turned out) and that’s all it took – I was hooked.
A few years later and I’ve long since moved on from the portrait studio, but the photography has stayed with me. My first DSLR camera in tow I took on life with a new sense of beauty. My camera lens let me see the world through new eyes – capturing dew covered grass to the priceless moments of watching my two neices grow, and everything in between! Photography is my passion, my creative outlet, and my way to face the world – head on – capturing all its beauty along the way ❤
These are the first two shots I took the day I got my camera. A good 3 years ago now. Priceless expressions from two of the most gorgeous and special people in my life =) Love these two little girlies with my whole heart ❤
